An Artful Approach
Unique pieces of art will add a pop to any home.
Jack & Esther Aezen bring an artistic approach to real estate rooted in their passion for collecting. While divergent paths inform their tastes and preferences, the husband-and-wife business partners agree that art is an integral part of creating a home that is inviting, interesting and utterly individual.
Jack honed his eye for detail as a designer of footwear and accessories and believes that all designed objects are art, including jewelry, furniture and more. Esther studied fine art in college, where her love of pop art was born. For her, the proportions and kinetic energy of pop art pieces are particularly thrilling. Together, the couple counts Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Haring among their favorite artists. In fact, their art collecting began when Esther brought the car to a standstill after spotting a Roy Lichtenstein in a window. She went in and bought the piece, and the rest is history. Their art collecting has since brought them from London and Italy to Hong Kong and Oaxaca, Mexico.
When it comes to assembling a collection, Jack and Esther offer a simple bit of advice: Can you live with it? If the answer is yes, then ask yourself if the color and proportions work with your environment. That's not to say that art has to match your interior design style. A contemporary work can be an excellent addition to a traditional home and vice versa.
Over time, you can reignite your original passion for a painting or collection by rotating pieces throughout your home. Of course, the art you love doesn't have to come from a gallery; you can find art anywhere, even in thrift stores on the Main Line. Once you do find a piece you cherish, ensure that it's matted and framed properly. And for pricey art investments, be sure to find a dealer you trust.
