The Complete Kitchen for Holiday Hosting

These tips are key for designing your next kitchen for the holiday season.

Having lived with 19 kitchen renovations, Stephen Mottola knows how to create the perfect kitchen for holiday entertaining. Supplementing natural light with under-cabinet, pendant and recessed lighting ensures proper illumination for every kitchen task. Stephen’s simple rule of thumb is that abundant natural light allows for darker cabinets while lighter cabinets are best suited otherwise. “If space and budget allow, having two ovens and two dishwashers is ideal for cooking and cleanup,” he explains. “Including refrigerator drawers and a wine refrigerator helps free up space in the primary refrigerator for ingredients and cooked dishes.” Kitchens are also expected to double as gathering spaces, so an island set away from the cabinets and workspace is critical. “It’s nice to have that space for your guests to sit and be engaged while you’re prepping, cooking and taste-testing. It’s a wonderful way to feel involved in the party and not exiled from the celebrations.”
